The facility’s main goal is to create and optimize remote handling solutions for large structures like breeding blankets in fusion power plants, promoting collaboration with researchers across the EUROfusion community. It will be part of the SDU Center for Large Structure Production (LSP) by a significant investment program.

The facility will host a multi-year experimental program by research institutes like VTT and Aarhus University, inviting all EUROfusion stakeholders. Its location at the LSP in Odense Port allows for collaborations with a broad range of industrial partners in robotics and automation. It will facilitate knowledge transfer and partnership establishment, especially in handling large masses in confined spaces, a topic of high interest to industrial partners.

This aligns with DANfusion’s recent statement to bolster Danish fusion efforts in collaboration with policy makers, the Danish industry, and funding agencies like the Novo Nordisk Foundation, aiming to position Denmark, the Nordic countries, and Europe as leaders in fusion technology solutions.
